SUMMARY:Letting Our Lives Speak in a Climate-Changing World: A Conversation with Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson and Barton Seaver
DESCRIPTION:In this special conversation presented in partnership with the Parenting for Peace series\, marine biologist and climate policy expert Dr. Ayana Elizabeth Johnson joins chef\, author\, and sustainable food systems advocate Barton Seaver for a powerful and deeply personal conversation about living with intention in a time of climate change. \nDrawing on the Quaker framing of “letting your life speak\,” Ayana and Barton will explore how our values\, as expressed through the food we serve\, the work we choose\, the conversations we hold at the dinner table\, and the communities we build\, shape the world we all inherit. Together\, they bring perspectives from science\, food systems\, ocean stewardship\, and parenthood to ask: What does it mean to model courage\, hope\, and responsibility in uncertain times? \nThis evening will weave together dialogue\, reflection\, and audience engagement\, offering practical inspiration for anyone seeking to align daily life with planetary well-being. Join us for an energizing and hopeful gathering. \nDoors open at 5:30 pm. Guests are invited to mingle\, enjoy light refreshments\, and music before the presentation. Following the conversation\, Barton and Ayana will sign books. \nIf you are interested in pre-reserving one of Ayana’s or Barton’s books\, you will be able to do so in the event checkout page. Limited additional books will be available for purchase on-site. \n  \nThis event is co-hosted by:\n\nThe ClimateTech Incubator\, based at Northeastern University’s Roux Institute campus in Portland\, Maine\, is a hub for climatetech startups. In addition to desk and prototyping space\, members have access to Northeastern’s global network of mentors\, researchers\, and students\, as well as the Roux Institute’s curated network of entrepreneurs\, investors\, and corporate partners. Members also benefit from a robust program of guest speakers\, networking events\, access to professional services\, and more. \nThe Friends School of Portland is an independent Quaker day school for students in preschool through eighth grade.  As a small school\, FSP offers cooperative\, hands-on learning in a close community where simplicity\, service\, stewardship\, and peaceful resolution of conflict are practiced every day. \nThis event is sponsored by:\n\nThe Nature Conservancy in Maine\nThe Nature Conservancy is a global environmental nonprofit working to create a world where people and nature can thrive.
