Plans for the Roux campus take shape
We are pleased to report that on March 23, 2022, the Initiative for Digital Engineering & Life Sciences (IDEALS) closed on the former B&M property. IDEALS, a non-profit, will be developing the site into the permanent home of the Roux Institute, allowing us to fulfill our unique mission of graduate education, research, entrepreneurship and partnerships.
The uses planned for the 13.5-acre site include classrooms and study space for learners, labs and research facilities, small manufacturing and innovation space, new venture incubation space, convening spaces for a range of events, housing, restaurants and other complementary retail, and hospitality such as a small hotel to accommodate our gatherings and events. The site design will include remarkable new, open green space and public access to the waterfront for the first time in 125 years.
IDEALS has hosted five public meetings to date and is incorporating public feedback into an updated design. The first of several Planning Board workshops is tentatively scheduled for May 24. Participation from partners, learners and others will ensure the Planning Board and City Council understand the full potential of the Roux Institute in Portland. We are looking forward to your input.
