Rob Cavanaugh

Rob Cavanaugh, PhD, CCC-SLP, is an Assistant Professor at the Massachusetts General Hospital Institute for Health Professions and affiliate faculty at the Roux Institute, where he previously worked with Brianne Olivieri-Mui and Louisa Smith in the Observational Health Data Sciences and Informatics (OHDSI) Center. He specializes in quantitative methods, serving as a statistical co-investigator, consultant, and mentor for various research initiatives. Dr. Cavanaugh is committed to education and open science, advocating for experiential learning approaches that build strong statistical foundations for future rehabilitation and health science researchers and practitioners.
Dr. Cavanaugh’s background as a speech-language pathologist in neurorehabilitation informs his teaching and research perspectives. His current research integrates rehabilitation health services, population health, and data science, analyzing insurance claims and electronic health record data to examine healthcare outcomes and improve service delivery. He continues to collaborate with Dr. Olivieri-Mui and Dr. Smith on health services and population health research using large-scale datasets such as the OHDSI Lab data at Northeastern University and the All of Us Research Program and serves as a domain expert in real-world data for data science student research projects.
