Shira Michel

Computer Science PhD Student

I am a Computer Science PhD student, advised by Dr. Mahsan Nourani and a member of the Human-Data Interaction (HDI) research team. Prior to joining Northeastern University and the Roux Institute, I earned my Bachelor’s degree from Arcadia University. Outside of research, I enjoy indoor spin classes, hiking, cooking, and caring for my growing collection of plants. I’m excited to explore Maine’s scenic parks, trails, islands, and lighthouses during my time here.

Research Overview

My research focuses on safely integrating AI into classrooms to support K-12 educators and students, especially those in rural areas who may be less familiar with technology. I aim to develop AI tools that promote inclusive, equitable learning in STEM education. By addressing challenges like student help-seeking behaviors and overreliance on AI, I explore ways to improve human-AI interaction strategies to mitigate potential harms to learning and education.
