LEARNING

There’s so much happening across campus this fall. Here’s what to know.

There’s a lot of excitement on campus this fall. The Roux welcomed its largest class ever. A number of events have greeted international learners and helped all new and returning students explore campus and the Portland area.

That’s not all. The Roux’s Techstars Accelerator has brought 10 more startups to co-locate on campus and grow their companies. Hiring for 70+ new positions across many fields is in full swing. And the Roux’s research partnerships are growing.

How students can connect and get involved

More monthly social and and academic programming is coming—all to help build community on campus. Students can get to know Northeastern’s cultural centers, learn about financial wellness, and get together for a Halloween-themed event. More details to come on these and other events.

Interested in joining one of seven student interest groups? Starting Oct. 7, the Roux will hold monthly meetups for students to learn about them. Take the popular Table Top Gaming group, which meets the first Friday of every month—faculty members often drop by and play!

I have a huge sense of accomplishment from pivoting disciplines and careers and I attribute that entirely to the Roux.

Career events and working with Roux partners

Other programs will connect learners and partners. For example, career panels this fall and beyond will identify job opportunities tied to students’ graduate programs and will cover topics including entrepreneurship and sustainability.

In collaboration with its employer partners, the Roux also continues to grow its experiential learning offerings, a core piece of all of its graduate programs and an opportunity for students to shape their career paths. Just ask Tom Nagler, who is earning his Master of Professional Studies in analytics. He advanced his analytics skills on a co-op as an e-commerce specialist at Wyman’s, a Maine-based frozen fruit company specializing in wild blueberries. The opportunity led to his permanent role as a marketing analyst.

“I have a huge sense of accomplishment from pivoting disciplines and careers, and I attribute that entirely to the Roux,” says Nagler, who works full time as he completes his studies.
