Lucy Havens
Postdoctoral Research Fellow
Lucy Havens is a postdoctoral research fellow in human-data interaction. Her research focuses on AI and data literacy, combining user research, data visualization, and natural language processing methods to investigate people’s perceptions of AI models and AI-generated content. Havens work aims to improve processes of evaluating AI models, with a particular focus on user-centered interventions and context-specific assessments.
Havens earned her Ph.D. in Responsible AI from the University of Edinburgh for research using natural language processing to analyze gender biases in archival documentation. She earned her master’s in Design Informatics from the University of Edinburgh and her bachelor’s in Information Systems from Carnegie Mellon University. Before joining the Roux, she worked as a postdoctoral researcher in the University of Maryland’s College of Information. She has also worked as a research software engineer, business and technology consultant, web developer and designer, and information designer.
In her free time, Havens can be found running, cooking, drawing, or (most often!) reading.
