Eva Balong

Visiting Associate Professor

Dr. Balog is currently on a sabbatical appointment as a Visiting Associate Professor at the Roux Institute and a Life Sciences Fellow with the Institute for Experiential AI. She is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of New England and an inaugural member of UNE’s Portland Laboratory for Biotechnology and Health Sciences and the Center for Cell Signaling Research. Dr. Balog received her Ph.D. in Molecular, Cell, and Developmental Biology from the University of California, Santa Cruz, and completed postdoctoral training at Los Alamos National Laboratory’s Center for Integrated Nanotechnologies.

Research Overview

Dr. Balog’s research is focused on the biophysical characterization of engineered proteins for biomaterials and biotechnology applications, with an especial interest in protein-based tools for the study and control of cellular activities.
