Ilka Pinz

Ilka Pinz, Ph.D. is an associate professor in the Center for Molecular Medicine at MaineHealth Institute for Research (MHIR) and adjunct faculty at the Roux Institute. Pinz is a physiologist by training, and her research focuses on understanding how changes in the lipid composition of our bodies contributes to cardiovascular disease and diabetes. Pinz is affiliated with the graduate program at the University of Maine and enjoys teaching and training the next generation of scientists. 

Pinz received her scientific training in Germany and earned her Ph.D. in Physiology from the University of Bremen, Germany. From there, she moved to the Brigham and Women’s Hospital/ HMS, Boston, MA for postdoctoral training in cardiovascular energy metabolism. During this training she expanded her ex vivo NMR and in vivo MRI knowledge and is now directing the Small Animal Imaging Facility at MHIR.
