Jennifer Spillane

Data Scientist

Dr. Jennifer Spillane is a Data Analyst working with Christine Lary at Northeastern University’s Roux Institute. Dr. Spillane conducts research on musculoskeletal genomics and aging using epidemiological techniques combined with genomics and bioinformatics.

Before coming to the Roux, Dr. Spillane completed a postdoctoral fellowship in the Smithsonian Institution’s Data Science Lab, where she worked to address the problem of DNA contamination in under-represented organisms by using machine learning techniques to model DNA like a language. She earned her PhD from the University of New Hampshire studying comparative genomics and phylogenomics of marine invertebrates, her MS from Western Washington University, and her BA from Trinity Christian College.

Dr. Spillane is also a long-distance runner, a passionate climate advocate, and loves cooking and discovering new restaurants.
